Møre og Romsdal
The province, or rather Fylke Møre og Romsdal, extends about 150 kilometers north of Bergen to the vicinity of Trondheim and presents itself as a fjord landscape characterized by rugged contrasts. Here, the often wild-blustering sea on the Atlantic coast meets partly deserted islands, romantic valleys and some of the most beautiful fjords in Norway.
Møre og Romsdal – Norway from the picture book
Møre og Romsdal can be reached both by plane via Oslo International Airport and further domestic flights to the provincial capital of Ålesund, Molde or Kristiansund. However, it is also possible to travel by car or by train or ship.
The best time to travel to this province characterized by heavy rainfall is the months of May to July, when the warmest average temperatures hit the least rainy days.
Ålesund – the most beautiful city in Norway
The Norwegians themselves refer to this city on the west coast of Norway, where after a devastating fire in 1904, new Art Nouveau-style buildings in the city center are crowded into three islands linked by bridges.
In addition to this cityscape, the sight of which you can enjoy after a 418 steps leading up to the mountain hill Aksla, the city has the Sunnmøre Museum and the Coastal Museum, a large aquarium and several churches some very interesting sights.
To the south or southwest of Ålesund wait in Ørsta a long wooden church built of wood and in Brandal Norway’s largest museum of the Arctic on your visit.
In the port city of Kristiansund further north, the Nordmøre Museum and on the neighboring island Grip report a stave church and a lighthouse of not always easy life in this coastal region in western Norway.
Trollstigen and Geirangerfjord
Two of Norway’s most impressive natural beauties can be explored from Åndalsnes. So a ride on the Trollstigen, a narrow road in eleven hairpin turns leads to a reachable from the end of May to September pass height of 700 meters. Do you take a walk from there to Utsikten, a point of view, so the entire passage is literally at your feet.
From here, the road leads down to Geiranger, where the majestic Geirangerfjord with the most beautiful fjord landscape in the world will captivate you. Breathtaking the sight of meltwater streams rushing down from the rock walls, springing from the snow fields on the surrounding mountains.
Active relaxation in a charming landscape
Møre og Romsdal has beautiful ski areas with slopes of varying lengths and difficulties, especially in the area of the Sunnmør Alps. Mountain tours and hiking trails lead through the mountain and fjord world Western Norway and friends of golf sports several places, such as those at Ålesund and Molde for their sporting activities available.
