Where to cycle with children in Austria?

In the mountains of Austria, the possibilities for a cycling holiday with children are limited. If you don’t like mountain bike tours, you should take a closer look at where you go cycling in Austria. During our numerous days on family holidays in Austria, we enjoyed the bike as a pleasant companion in the valleys. Also did some great bike tours with the kids that you might like.

A bike path leads around Lake Millstatt in Carinthia – we did the bike tour with children on a beautiful autumn day

Here are our most beautiful bike tours in Austria

1) Instead of walking through the valley for kilometers, we went by bike in Austria and explored the landscape. We really liked the Grossar Valley – where you can reach the Ötzlsee in the Hohe Tauern National Park at the end of the valley behind Hüttschag. The lake is wonderful, but very cold. Great mountain backdrop!

2) The bike tour with the children through the Pöllatal was similarly beautiful in Carinthia. Below the Katschberghöhe, nature is very original and the so-called Kochlöffelhütte is an easier destination in the middle of the mountains. You could also stop there.

3) Another great bike tour in Carinthia: once around Lake Millstatt. We did this bike tour in early November (!) And really enjoyed the warm sun in the south of Austria. We were on the way to two playgrounds with the children. Here are the beautiful pictures from our bike tour around Lake Millstatt with children.

4) We found the combination with nature, mountains and an entertaining destination at Schladming in Styria. First we cycle from Rohrmoos through the Untertal to the Riesach Falls. Then it’s worth it small Hike with the children to the largest waterfall in Styria.

Long distance cycling route with children in Austria?

Many families have already ridden the Inn cycle path with children. If you go down the river, you even have the advantage of going down from the mountains. The slope is not that high, it goes down evenly. So very good with children. It starts in the Tiroler Oberland in Landeck and then via Innsbruck, Kufstein. From here to Germany … On the way in Tyrol there are also great leisure destinations for children near the bike path.

Another long-distance cycle path in Austria runs along the Danube. The multi-day bike tour between Passau and Vienna is ideal with children. Cities like Linz and Krems are on the way along the bike path. Beautiful landscapes alternate with sights. And Vienna is of course a special destination with children: a round with the famous Ferris wheel on the Vienna Prater is part of it. We were in Vienna without a bike, that is our tips for Vienna with children.
