Descale the delonghi coffee maker

Descale the Delonghi coffee machine

Anyone who has a delonghi fully automatic coffee machine will have to descale it sooner or later. The indicator light flashes to show when the delonghi needs to be descaled. Although coffee can still be prepared, the flashing should not be ignored for a long time.

Limescale damages the material, delays heating and does not contribute to a good-tasting coffee. And tasty coffee is what coffee lovers are primarily concerned with.

there is no need to worry about the ingredients of the descaler, as the product is based on lactic acid and is rather harmless compared to other descalers. During the warranty period, the use of the original descaler is anyway prescribed by the manufacturer.

  • Avoid skin contact with the descaler – even in diluted form it is not skin friendly.
  • The descaling process is noisy and interrupted by heating phases, please do not interrupt.
  • The cleaning of the appliance is best done directly afterwards. Proceed according to the operating instructions and always unplug the machine when working inside the coffee machine.

Delonghi magnifica descaling – instructions in steps

  1. Turn on the machine and wait until the heating phase is completed and the nozzles have been rinsed. The machine is finished when the LED lights above the cup symbols light up green continuously.
  2. Place a container under the steam nozzle on the right. The container must hold at least 1.5 liters and fit under the nozzle.
  3. Remove and empty the water tank.
  4. Mix a portion of descaler with ½ liter of water in a measuring cup. If you do not use individual portions, you will find a scale on the left side of the label of the bottle of delonghi liquid descaler, on which the individual portions are marked with lines.
  5. Pour the mixture of decalcifier and water into the water tank and replace it. Move the steam nozzle back to the outside right, above the drip tray.
  6. Press and hold the red button with the cleaning symbol for at least 5 seconds.
  7. When the LED lights above the cup symbols and the steam symbol flash simultaneously, turn the steam knob to the "ON" position.
  8. The descaling is now done without further action. The whole program takes about half an hour. In the meantime, repeatedly eject liquid through the steam nozzle until the tank is completely empty.
  9. The end of the descaling program is indicated by the alternate illumination of the leds above the cup and steam icons. Now turn the steam knob to the "OFF" position.
  10. Now the machine must be rinsed with clean water. To do this, remove the empty water tank, rinse it well and fill it with fresh water.
  11. After inserting the water tank, empty the collection container and place it under the steam nozzle again.
  12. The three lights of the cup and steam symbols flash simultaneously. Now turn the steam knob back to ON.
  13. The machine rinses until the water tank is empty again. When it indicates the water tank is empty (red light above the symbol with the water jug), turn the steam knob to "OFF" and remove the drip tray.
  14. The machine switches itself off automatically. The rinsing process is complete. The water tank can be refilled and the machine can be switched on again for normal use. Replace the water filter at the same time.

Frequently asked questions about the delonghi

Is it possible to reset the descaling function on the delonghi??

When this question is asked, it is usually because the indicator light remains lit despite repeated descaling. There is no reset in the true sense of the word. But it is worth trying to unplug the machine and plug it back in after some time. If this does not help either, the customer service department is called in, as the cause may be a different problem.

Can the delonghi descaling be interrupted??

Descaling the Delonghi coffee machine

There is no reasonable way to cancel the program. It is certainly better to let it go all the way through. If it is still necessary to cancel the process, the only option is to unplug the machine from the mains. As soon as the machine is switched on again, the program must be restarted. Do not use the delonghi coffee maker directly after an interrupted descaling program, as some of the descaler is still in the machine.

are there cleaning tablets for the delonghi magnifica?

The magnifica does not have a cleaning procedure that requires the use of cleaning tables. But there are very detailed recommendations in the description for regular cleaning without detergent. Also the cleaning of the brewing unit is done manually and only with clean water.

can individual parts of the delonghi fully automatic coffee maker be put in the dishwasher??

no, no part of the delonghi should be washed in the dishwasher, as the materials are not suitable for this and would be damaged.

Whether you can use alternative home remedies for delonghi descaling?

If you are wondering whether you can decalcify your delonghi with citric acid, you should refrain from doing so. Citric acid is not suitable for hot descaling, since calcium citrate can form during hot descaling with citric acid, which is very difficult, if not impossible, to remove. It can cause lasting damage to your fully automatic coffee machine.

the same applies to vinegar essence, which does not cause any problems with hot descaling, but can damage some stainless steel parts. To avoid such damage and not to jeopardize the warranty claims, it is recommended to decalcify with original delonghi decalcifier.
