education
Amazement at the speed of light
Our educational offers bring young and old visitors* closer to the cosmos and open doors to current MINT education. We use the versatile possibilities of observatories and digital planetarium projections to make other fields of science accessible in a contemporary way and at eye level, starting with astronomy. The education department of the Stiftung Planetarium Berlin is constantly developing the offerings for young and old researchers*.
Our educational offers include:
- school programmes
- Information and working materials for teachers and learners
- INTENSE – The mobile science theatre for Berlin schools
- Space Researchers Club

exhibitions
Museum of astronomy
In the historic building of the Archenhold Observatory in Berlin-Treptow a museum of astronomy awaits you. Since 1909, the largest observatory to date has presented exhibitions on astronomy, one of mankind’s oldest sciences. Changing special exhibitions are dedicated to the development of astronomy and illuminate different focal points.
special exhibitions
From time to time, special exhibitions are presented in all facilities of the Planetarium Berlin Foundation.
In the foyer of the Zeiss-Großplanetarium you can see the exhibitions ” Our blue planet ” and “The Mars Experience”.
Foundation Planetarium Berlin
The Planetarium Berlin Foundation was established on 1 July 2016 as a foundation under public law with legal capacity and, for the first time in the city’s history, unites Berlin’s astronomical institutions. The Archenhold Observatory and the Wilhelm Foerster Observatory are among the most traditional public observatories in Germany, while the Planetarium am Insulaner and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium, Europe’s most modern science theatres, offer relevant and innovative forms of communication.
The houses of the foundation are modern bridges to the cosmos. As a joint institution, they are at the forefront of international technology and content and form an essential part of Berlin’s educational and cultural offerings. The foundation bundles the topic of astronomy and uses synergies. The reorientation and professionalisation of the joint programme and the range of programmes is crucial. In addition to astronomy, the range of topics will be extended to other sciences.
