The geneva auto salon has always been a popular date with international managers. The organizers now justify the cancellation with corona. But there are other reasons.

Stuttgart – the geneva auto show will not take place next year either. The organizers explain their cancellation with the industry-wide problems in connection with the covid 19 pandemic. The auto show, always held at the beginning of the year, was once considered a popular meeting place for managers from all over the world, partly because it featured the premieres of new models before the start of the important spring season.

The direct impact of the pandemic is reported to include continued travel restrictions for international exhibitors, visitors and journalists. According to the organizers, the main reason for the decision was probably the fact that several car manufacturers had recently cancelled their participation. The reason for this, he says, is not least problems around the shortage of semiconductors, for example, which the carmakers wanted to solve first.

New date is 2023

Although the trade show planned for february 2022 will be cancelled again, "the steps already taken towards further development will be continued so that the 2023 edition will have an even greater impact," the organizers promise. This decision "has been made in the best interest of both automakers and automotive fans," the organizers assure.

However, the car show in geneva had already lost its appeal before corona. More than a dozen carmakers left the country. Whereas more than 700,000 visitors used to come, in 2019 the figure was only around 600,000.

Üby the way: according to the current status, the car show planned for 2022 will take place in paris after all. And the German IAA this year was also successfully held in Munich.
