Traveling with children

  • Taking children up to and including 5 years is free of charge within the scope of the Lower Saxony tariff *.
  • For children between 6 and 14 years old, an additional children’s ticket must be purchased within the scope of the Lower Saxony tariff *
  • Children aged 15 and over have to buy a normal ticket. From the age of 15 you should see whether a youth BahnCard is worthwhile for your child.

* For journeys beyond this area of ​​validity, different transport conditions and tariff provisions of the respective extended area of ​​validity apply.

Please inform yourself beforehand at a point of sale (e.g. travel center) or at the info hotlines of the rail transport companies which tickets are required for taking children with you!

bicycles

Bicycles are generally not included in the nationwide semester ticket. An additional bike ticket must be purchased. Which ticket you need where depends on the scope in which you are operating.

  • Bicycle transport within a transport association: Bicycle transport is regulated differently in the transport associations. Please inform yourself in this regard at the respective transport associations about their regulations.
  • Bicycle transport within the scope of the Lower Saxony tariff: To take your bike with you within the Lower Saxony tariff, you must purchase a day ticket for the Lower Saxony tariff.
  • Taking bicycles outside the scope of the Lower Saxony tariff: To take your bike outside the Lower Saxony tariff, you have to buy a day ticket for local public transport in Germany.
  • Bicycle transport in the IC / EC: When traveling with the IC / EC between Bremen and Norddeich / Emden outer harbor (IC56) and Leer and Norddeich Mole / Emden outer harbor (IC35), a bicycle parking space must be reserved in addition to the day bike ticket.

Caution: If the local trains do not have enough parking space capacity, you can not take your bike with you. In order to relieve rush hour traffic, some transport associations have set banning times for bicycles that must be observed.

Traveling with pets

For the taking of pets within the scope of the Lower Saxony tariff, the current "Regulations for the carriage of animals" of the conditions of carriage of the Lower Saxony tariff apply. Within the scope of validity, pets up to the size of a domestic cat can be taken free of charge in closed transport boxes if other passengers are not disturbed. Otherwise, a child ticket of the Lower Saxony tariff is required to travel with the dog. Dogs must wear a leash and muzzle. Guide dogs can be taken along free of charge and are exempt from muzzling.
