2. What types of brush heads are there??

To understand the two different types of slip-on toothbrushes, you first have to know that there are two types of electric toothbrushes. First, the oscillating-rotating Models. This is the classic electric toothbrush with a round brush head that rotates around itself (e.g. the Oral-B Vitality or Dual Clean with Pulsonic or Trizone attachment). The second category is sonic or ultrasonic toothbrushes (e.g. Philips’ Pulsonic), which work using sonic technology and vibrate instead of rotation. The brush head has the shape of a manual toothbrush. In itself, you can distinguish both types based on their appearance, but be careful: there are rarely rotating-oscillating models with an elongated brush head. Tip: The Oral-B brush heads fit all models of the brand’s electric toothbrushes, such as the vitality. The round brush heads simply do not fit on the sonic toothbrushes.

3.2. Daily use

Depending on the type of Oral-B brush head, the manufacturer recommends either daily use or selective use. People who normally use the Precision Clean brush heads, for example, but who have inflammation in their gums, should take a soft sensitive head for this time. Once the inflammation has healed, you can safely return to your normal hard brush head. If you suffer from sensitive gums in general, you can still use the sonic toothbrush (e.g. the Philips Pulsonic).

So that teeth and gums are adequately cared for, you should change the Oral-B brushes (whether Precision Clean or Trizone) every 3 months. A sign developed by the brand for this is when the blue color strip on the bristles fades. In daily dental care, you should also make sure to wash the brush head well after each use and to allow it to air dry.

5. Oral-B electric toothbrushes

There are many models of the oscillating-rotating or the electric Oral-B toothbrushes. The simplest model is the Oral-B Vitality. The Oral-B Vitality works with 2D technology. All other models work with 3D technology, e.g. the Oral-B Pro 600, the Oral-B Pro 2000 or the Oral B Triumph 5000. The Oral B Triumph 5000 in particular is one of the more sophisticated models with different stages (levels). All circular brush heads fit on all models, so they can be combined with one another as desired, e.g. Vitality with the Precision Clean brush head, the Sensitive or Trizone brush head. The Oral-B electric toothbrush is therefore a versatile product, and you don’t have to commit to replacement brushes when you buy them. Another major manufacturer of electric toothbrushes is Philips. The Diamondclean and Philips Sonicare are particularly well known here. The Philips Sonicare is a sonic toothbrush. The range of Braun Oral-B sonic toothbrushes is called Pulsonic. The Pulsonic has its own brush heads, which have the shape of a manual toothbrush. So most of the brushes shown here do not fit the Pulsonic. The Oral-B oral irrigator is also popular. The company advertises with the Oral-B Professionel Care saying that it is recommended by dentists. As the market in Germany is highly competitive, Oral-B often brings new “innovations” to the market.

7. Oral-B brush heads at the Stiftung Warentest

In the 09/2014 issue, Stiftung Warentest tested 8 brush heads for Oral-B electric toothbrushes. However, only one of these was actually from Braun Oral-B, namely the Precision Clean. With the test rating VERY GOOD (1.4), the Precision Clean was also the Oral-B brush comparison winner. The remaining 7 products were from other brands, so it is not worth presenting the results here. However, we recommend that you always use Oral-B brush heads for an Oral-B electric toothbrush, as they are definitely a perfect fit.

Tip: A manual toothbrush should also be changed every 3 months.

8. Questions and answers about Oral-B brush heads

8.1. How often should you change the Oral-B brush heads??

To ensure good hygiene in the mouth and the plaque can always be carefully removed, it is important to change the Oral-B toothbrushes every 3 months. Of course, this only applies to the brush head. The Oral-B Headless Electric Toothbrush lasts for several years, but should be wiped off with a damp cloth now and then.

There is a simple test to find out whether it is time to change: Oral-B brush heads usually have white and blue bristles. If the blue bristles lose color, the brown toothbrush is a sign that you should change the brush head.

8.2. Which Oral-B brush head is the best?

Which Oral-B electric toothbrush suits you depends on both the nature of your teeth and your mouth. In principle, one cannot say whether Philips or Braun Oral-B is better. However, the fact is that Oral-B is the market leader and offers a very wide range of products.
