Playground – what bans are there, child’s affair

A playground is for all children to play – that’s for sure! Because playing is important for every child and you have a right to it. But children are not always allowed to play there in peace. We’ll tell you what your rights are.

Playgrounds are always marked as such. A sign indicates which prohibitions exist. These are always to be considered. In addition to the signs, other things can be important or interesting for you.

Dog and smoking ban

A playground is a children’s zone in the dogs and smokers have no business. Dogs could contaminate the playground and restrict the behavior of the children when playing. Dogs are prohibited in almost all playgrounds, and there is often an extra sign for this. A violation of this costs 35 euros – this is regulated in the dog regulations and dog laws, which are decided by the city or the municipality.

Smoking bans on playgrounds are regulated in some federal states (Bavaria, Brandenburg, Saarland, Bremen and NRW) in the non-smoking protection law. Some municipalities and cities have also enforced the smoking ban. Logical: Smoking is harmful to health and many smokers pollute the environment with their cigarette butts. A sign often indicates that smoking is prohibited. Unfortunately, not all adults adhere to the ban. The playground should be a smoke-free zone.

Midday rest – no thanks!

There is no rest in the afternoon, i.e. a ban on staying from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on playgrounds. The whole day can also be played there on Sunday. Unless it is explicitly on a sign. As a rule, however, this is not the case. Most of the time, playing is allowed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on playgrounds, a stay until 10 p.m. is permitted if the children are quiet. If neighbors feel disturbed by the noise, it’s up to them. You have moved into an apartment that is adjoined by a playground and must therefore expect children to shout. Even if the playground was built later – in residential areas they are permissible and child noise is to be tolerated. Residents also have no right to prohibit or have “loud” play equipment, such as the cable car or zip line, removed.

Playing only allowed for neighboring children?

No, there are playgrounds for all children! You can invite your friends and acquaintances to play with you, even if they don’t live in the area. Nobody can complain or scare you away. Playgrounds that the landlord has built are also public. But there is one difference: private playgrounds that are expressly marked this way. Most of these are also fenced. Only the children living there can play with their friends.
By the way: the playground is usually for all children up to 14 years. Young people have no business there, for example if they listen to loud music.

Why is there a fight sometimes??

When you play on the playground with your friends, you can’t make noises. Sure, there is laughter when playing fans and calls out loud when playing football. Some adults perceive this as noise and complain or complain. But they have no right to do so. Adults allowed to Don’t measure children or order them around. If there is a problem, they need to talk to your parents – not to you! Of course it’s always a question of how to say something. A polite request can be followed up and a little consideration.

Spielstraße?

Who does not know the blue street sign under the name "Spielstraße"? But actually it is called "traffic-calmed area". The cars have to drive at walking pace here – that means a maximum of 5 km / h. Children can play here, ride bikes, scooters or inline skates. But when cars or other vehicles drive up, the children must not hinder them. Mutual consideration is called for here.

Have you ever had stress with your neighbors in the playground??
