Strollers – Safe on the go with children and cones

When children are announced, at some point all parents-to-be will be faced with the question of which stroller they should choose. There are a variety of models, and the price differences are sometimes considerable. We have therefore put together a small guide on the subject for you.

Preliminary considerations for buying a stroller

It is best to set up the nursery and choose a suitable stroller during pregnancy. So you are well prepared when your little prince or princess is finally there – and as is well known, this sometimes goes faster than planned .

When choosing the right stroller, you should ask yourself a few questions in advance: on which surface do you want to travel? Small plastic wheels are suitable for a flat asphalt floor, large rubber wheels enable smooth driving even on bumpy forest and gravel paths. If you will be traveling a lot with your baby, you need a manoeuvrable stroller that can be easily folded and stowed in the trunk.

If you live on a higher floor without an elevator and therefore have to carry the stroller frequently, you should choose a model with a low weight. Would you like to use your stroller for as long as possible or will you replace the newborn’s stroller with a buggy later? Are you planning other children who will also use the stroller later? And of course: how much money do you want to spend on your dream stroller?

Your checklist for buying a stroller

No matter which model you choose – you shouldn’t miss out on some basics: A high-quality pram has the TÜV seal or the GS seal for "tested safety". It is robust, stable and the parking brake works perfectly. An adjustable push handle and an easily collapsible frame make handling easier. The cover should be weatherproof, breathable and easy to clean. No way may the Chemical smell unpleasant.

Classic stroller or combination stroller?

A classic stroller has large air-filled rubber tires and good suspension. It can be used from the day of birth: the integrated carrycot or soft carrycot can be removed so that you can be flexible with your little darling. This stroller model is suitable for everyone who prefers a traditional look without much frills.

Another advantage: Classic strollers offer plenty of storage space for diapers and bottles or for your shopping. However, this model is only recommended for children up to twelve months. You can use a combi stroller for a much longer time: This is a classic stroller frame that can be modified using various attachment modules. Such 3-in-1 models usually include a baby seat for the car, a carrycot and a sports attachment.

A combi stroller combines all the advantages of a classic stroller with those of a stroller: This means you can use it from the birth of your son or daughter to kindergarten age. The prerequisite for this is, of course, a sturdy frame that can be optimally maneuvered using a pair of swiveling wheels. This keeps you mobile, even if your offspring grow taller and heavier over time.

Buggy, pushchair or baby jogger?

As soon as your child can sit and walk safely, you can switch to a small, agile buggy. This stroller variant for the older ones is particularly suitable for short tours on level ground and offers a lot of comfort. For example, models with an adjustable backrest, padded seat and practical sun canopy are available. High quality buggies are extremely light and can be easily folded and unfolded – often with just one hand. And: Many children love that they can get in and out of a buggy independently.

The stroller is relatively similar to the buggy: This stroller model can also be folded up with little effort, but is often a bit heavier and therefore more stable than a buggy. You can therefore push the pushchair easily on uneven surfaces. Such a model is recommended as a second stroller to the classic stroller if the child can already sit securely and no longer want to lie all the time.

The baby jogger is also a kind of sports stroller and for sporty ones parents Ideally suited: Due to their stable, yet flexible construction, joggers can use them for fast rides while skating, to jog or hiking. The good suspension ensures that your little darling sits comfortably and safely in it even on trips into nature, for example on uneven forest paths. This three-wheeled stroller model is recommended for children from one year.

Extras and accessories for your stroller

If you have decided on a stroller, you can look for suitable accessories. A practical example is a trolley or beanbag with a cozy lambskin lining that keeps your baby warm, especially in winter. A high-quality rain cover made of transparent plastic is attached to the stroller in rainy weather and must not blow away even in strong wind.

For the summer you need a parasol or an awning to protect your offspring from excessive sunlight. Annoying mosquitoes or wasps can also severely disrupt the ride in the stroller in summer – a suitable insect screen helps here. If you have an older child who is not yet able to travel long distances safely, there is a footboard for the stroller: This is attached to the strut between the rear wheels so that tired little adventurers can be pushed by mom and dad.

The stroller should fit your life

While women are often interested in the design of a stroller, men find the technical details particularly interesting. Both are justified, but the most important thing is that you choose a model that suits your circumstances. Because if you live in the country and are often on uneven ground, you need a different stroller than a city dweller. And while car owners should choose a model that fits in the trunk, train drivers need a light, manoeuvrable stroller. Basically, if you invest in quality, you and your offspring will enjoy the pram for a long time. And who knows: Maybe baby number two will soon be announced .
