Christoph dornier clinic: therapy offer for adolescents

In accordance with our treatment concept, our therapy for adolescents from the age of 14 requires a broad and thorough diagnosis, in which the triggering and maintaining conditions of the problem behavior are considered as closely as possible and everyday. In addition to the young people, the caregivers are also involved.

Adolescents often show symptoms similar to those of adults with mental illnesses. In addition, there are age-specific symptoms that must be taken into account diagnostically and therapeutically.
Behavioral problems (e.g. constraints, fears) of adolescents are often closely linked to their development progress and age-related development tasks (e.g. dealing with physical changes, changing schools, choosing a career, growing up). That is why our therapeutic offer is strongly geared to the resources and skills of young people in order to promote general progress in development. In this context, it is important to us that the adolescents voluntarily opt for treatment in our clinic.

In the treatment of adolescents, we pay particular attention to the fact that their problems are closely related to their environment, i.e. H. with certain situations, people and dealing with their fellow human beings. For our therapy, this means that individual treatment measures are also aimed at the environment, especially at the caregivers. These are closely involved in the therapy in regular family discussions. Our family talks serve a. to discuss helpful behaviors in connection with the symptoms of the adolescent. In addition to the symptom reduction, blockages in the completion of developmental tasks are often released during the therapeutic process. These so-called "side effects of therapy" (e.g. greater need for autonomy) are desirable from a therapeutic point of view, but can initially lead to uncertainties and irritations on the parental side. They are therefore also part of our family talks.

Adolescents from the age of 14 are admitted to inpatient therapy. If necessary and therapeutic indication, relatives of the adolescents can spend the night in the house. An excellent numerical patient-therapist ratio enables intensive psychotherapy that is tailored to the patient’s needs. In this way, we can design everyday clinical practice from a behavioral perspective in such a way that the adolescents benefit as much as possible. The possibility of therapeutically accompanied exercises z. B. also in the home school, avoidance behavior can be intensively monitored and reduced very closely to everyday life. In our youth-specific groups we support a. Problem solving and social skills.

Due to the intensive therapy, the average duration of treatment for our patients is approximately five to six weeks (this does not apply to the Treatment of Anorexia), which reduces absenteeism at school and also makes it easier to return to everyday life.
