Porsche presents three new models at the Geneva Motor Show: the 911 cabriolet, the 718 T and the macan S.
Companies on the topic
at the geneva auto salon, porsche presents, among other things, the 911 cabriolet.
Porsche starts on the 89. Geneva automobile salon (until 17. March) with three new sports cars in spring. Highlight is the new 911 cabriolet. In addition to the rear-engine convertible, porsche is presenting the 300-hp mid-engine 718 T as a boxster and cayman to the public in geneva. The macan S with its new V6 turbo front engine completes the premiere trio as the best-seller in the model range.
Icon: the 911 cabriolet
Four months ago, porsche unveiled the new 911 coupe in los angeles, and now the cabriolet is following suit. With a 450 hp (331 kW) bi-turbo engine for the S models, the cabrio is expected to reach top speeds of over 300 km/h (186 mph) and accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than four seconds.
The new 911 cabriolet continues a tradition: even the first porsche was an open-top vehicle. This body variant made its debut in the 911 model family more than three decades ago. According to porsche, it now takes just twelve seconds for the weight-optimized soft top to fold completely thanks to the new hydraulic drive system. It closes just as quickly at speeds of up to 50 km/h. The high-tech roof structure, made primarily of magnesium and designed by porsche itself, is designed to prevent the roof from inflating even at high speeds.
Touring variant: the porsche 718 T
The second genf innovation presented by porsche is the 718 T. The new touring variant for the boxster and cayman combines the 300 hp (220 kW) four-cylinder turbo boxer engine with dynamic components such as the sport chrono package and the PASM sport suspension, including 20 millimeters of lowered body height. According to porsche, the adaptive aggregate suspension PADM and porsche torque vectoring with mechanical rear axle cross-lock are also standard features. Both are to be available for the first time in conjunction with the 2.0-liter boxer engine. The 718 T’s territory is the winding country road, with the sheer joy of dedicated driving as its primary goal. With its equipment concentrated on the essentials, the purist driving machine continues the legacy of the 911 T from 1968 and the 911 carrera clubsport from 1987.
SUV power: the macan S
The new macan S also makes its public debut in geneva. Porsche wants to upgrade the macan in terms of design, comfort, connectivity and driving dynamics. The compact SUV features a three-dimensional LED tail light strip. In the future, LED technology will also be standard for the main headlights. The most striking new features in the interior are the 10.9-inch touchscreen of the new porsche communication management (PCM), the newly arranged and designed air vents and the optional GT sports steering wheel familiar from the 911.
With the macan S, porsche has comprehensively upgraded the macan in terms of design, comfort, connectivity and driving dynamics.
The PCM provides access to new digital functions such as intelligent voice control and online navigation as standard. The range of comfort features will be expanded to include, among other things, a traffic jam assistant, an ionizer for better air in the interior and a heated windshield. The macan S is to be powered by a new V6 engine with three liters of displacement and twin-scroll supercharger in the central turbo layout. The engine achieves 354 hp (260 kW) and 480 newton meters of torque. The seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and porsche traction management (PTM) all-wheel drive have been adapted to the new engine.
Porsche in switzerland
70 years ago, in 1949, the sports car manufacturer presented vehicles for the first time at the geneva motor show. In 2018, porsche schweiz AG, headquartered in rotkreuz, recorded a slight decline in deliveries of seven percent to 3.350 vehicles. The high-performance models remained as popular as ever. According to porsche, 962 units of the iconic 911 sports car were delivered to customers, ten percent more than in the previous year. The proportion of turbo/turbo S and GT versions was 53 percent.
The macan would also be available in 2018 with 1.068 deliveries the most popular porsche model among swiss customers. According to the company’s own figures, a total of 7,035 vehicles have been delivered to customers since its market launch in 2014.035 vehicles have been handed over to customers.
