in the Life Every child has numerous transitions that it must go through and survive. In your daycare center, you can support the children by standing by their side and accompanying them with the transition.

Typical transitions of a day care center

In every day care center there are numerous transitions and changes with which the children are confronted. Each transition means for the individual child that they abandon familiar relationships
and must be separated from secure structures and processes. New impressions pour in on the child. It has to be trusted with previously unknown children and educators. This can make a child anxious and cause tremendous stress.

Typical transitions in the day care center are e.g. B .:

  • the ability of children to adapt when changing from family to day nursery

  • the farewell and transition from crèche to kindergarten

How children react to transitions

Each child reacts very differently to the requirements that such transition phases place on him personally. Some children manage to adapt easily and without problems, while others find it difficult to adapt to the new situations. However, it has been scientifically researched that coping with transitions is a stress factor for numerous children. Infections increase significantly after passing through the children.

Reduce the stress in transitional situations for the children

Together with your employees, collect all situations and circumstances within the facility in which the children in your day care center have to manage transitions. Discuss each of these transitions and determine how you can make the transitions easier for the children and what you can optimize in this regard in your educational work for the children.

Transitions are situations that are very challenging for children. Do not leave the children alone in such situations. Support the children and try them
to relieve the fear of the new situation through intensive support.

Tip for your practice:
Talk to me the children targeted fears and uncertainties, such as: "Are you already very excited because you will be coming to school soon?" Children have to experience that such feelings are quite normal.
