Professions with children

A heart for the youngest

Did you always like to take care of other children? Or are you particularly concerned about the wellbeing of young people? Then use your love for children in your professional orientation. In addition to the well-known jobs close to children, there are also many where you do not always but always come into contact with children or young people. It is important that you can get involved with their needs, have patience and take responsibility. Because no matter whether it is educational, medical or teaching professions, the well-being of the children is in your hands.

Educate and teach

Full-time jobs with children include, for example, the job as an educator. You look after and support children or young adults, prepare educational plans and measures and treat illnesses or injuries. As an educator for youth and home education, you focus on children in family-supplementing or family-replacing institutions such as children’s and youth homes. You can also work close to the child with a completed subject such as pedagogy / educational sciences, social work / social pedagogy or religious education – however, as an academic specialist, you work much more theoretically. You deal with pedagogical theories, principles and methods and plan target group-specific learning offers.

Just like educators, teachers deal with children every day. Her job is all about imparting knowledge. You can concentrate on a specific type of school and study, for example, teaching at special schools or teaching at primary schools. However, you can also focus on certain subjects and choose, for example, a teaching post in social, social and human sciences, teaching post: art, teaching post: mathematics / natural sciences, teaching post: sport or teaching post: languages.

Medical professions with contact with children

If you are interested in medicine, you can get further training to become a specialist in pediatric and adolescent medicine after completing your degree, combining your medical interest with the fun of dealing with children. The work of health and children’s nurses is also specifically geared towards children. They take care of the care and medical care of little patients around the clock in hospitals and clinics.

But other health experts can also specialize in children. As a speech therapist, physiotherapist or occupational therapist, you either only take care of young patients or treat them regularly alongside all other patients who come to your practice. And even with a degree in dentistry, you can always adapt to small patients.

Hairdressers and photographers also work with children

Among the numerous dual training occupations, there are quite a few in which you have to deal with children time and again. As a specialist for swimming pools, for example, you give swimming lessons and ensure the safety of bathers, even in the toddler pool. But your customers also include children as hairdressers and photographers. Here you have to use a lot of empathy to ensure that the little ones join in and look beautiful in the end. Because sometimes toddlers and adolescents also need hearing aids, hearing care professionals also have to be able to adapt to their needs at work. And also for all professions in tourism and hospitality, it is an advantage if you can deal with children. As a specialist in the hospitality industry or as a restaurant specialist, for example, you ensure recurring customers when the parents can go home with satisfied children.
