Set up and configure windows 10 parental controls

Windows 10 has brought a lot of new security features (and loopholes), but parental controls are a feature that has remained constant from previous versions of Windows. Parental controls have gotten even better with Windows 10. You now have the ability to monitor your child’s activities such as web browsing, screen time, and the apps and games they use.

While some use it for espionage hold, Monitoring your child’s activities during times of online harassment and bullying can be useful. So you can, without spending more time lose, set up parental controls on Windows 10:

Create a child user account in Windows 10

Before you configure parental controls in Windows 10, you need to create a user account for your child. That’s how it’s done:

1. Go to Windows 10 settings-> accounts-> Family and other users and click "Add family member" .

2. In the new dialog box that appears, choose "Add child" and enter an email address if you have already created one for your child. Otherwise, click the option "The person I want to add does not have an email address".

5. Once you’re done, an invitation email will be sent to the email address you just created. You must accept the email invitation to begin configuring parental controls.

6. Open the Outlook email, log in with the email address you just created and open the invitation email. Click here " accept invitation ".

Note : The invitation will expire in 14 days. Therefore, accept them beforehand.

7. The page " Join your family " will open and you will need to log in again to confirm acceptance of the invitation. You can then configure the child account as you wish.

Configure the child account

You can use the Microsoft family website configure.

Here are the options you can set parental controls to:

last activity

In the section "last activity" you can choose the option "activity reports" activate or deactivate. If you leave the option activated, you will get Reports on browsing activity, apps & Games and your child’s screen time . You can just go to the section "last activities" switch to review all activities, or you can also use the option "Send me weekly email reports" activate.

Note : Microsoft can report web browsing activity only when the child searches Internet Explorer or Edge. So make sure to block access to other browser apps. If "Activity Reporting" is activated, the InPrivate browser mode is deactivated.

Web browsing

The internet can be scary for a child because you never know when a weird, inappropriate ad will appear. It is therefore important that you monitor your child’s Internet surfing. In the section "Web browsing" can you Block websites, that your child shouldn’t visit. First you have the option "Block inappropriate websites" activate. You can then find inappropriate websites in the section "Always block them" Add.

Make sure that "Secure Search" is activated. Search engines therefore automatically filter all unsuitable results in the search results. If you have a really young child, you can even make sure that only the websites you have approved are displayed.

Apps, games and media

Children can quickly get to grips with the cool new games that are on offer these days. However, as a parent, you need to make sure that you don’t get your hands on unsuitable apps or games. Fortunately, you can go to the Apps, Games & Media “Block apps and games that your child shouldn’t open. You must first "Block inappropriate apps and games" activate. Then you can Limit apps, games and media from the Windows Store to the appropriate age of the child . You can even block certain apps and games, but only from recent activity.

Worried that your child is using the computer all the time? Well, you can take control here. You can decide how much time your children can spend on the computer, and you can also decide when they can use the device . Leave in the section "screen time" the option "Set limits on when my child can use devices" on. Then you can set the time period in which your child can use the PC every day. You can also limit usage per day if you want.

In the section "to buy & Output" you can add money for your child to buy apps, games and other content in the Windows Store. You can just Add money and remove all other payment options, so that your purchases are under control.

Find your child

If your child has one Windows 10 Mobile- Device, you can use this option to check the location on the map. You can only activate it if you use the same Microsoft account on your phone. This can come in handy if you are concerned about your children’s whereabouts and the phone is turned off.

This option will take you to the Xbox privacy settings page where you will need to sign in with 2-step verification. Here you can monitor your child’s Xbox profile.
