Imagine that there is life in the supermarket fresh produce counter and the small conversations between vegetables and fruit can be heard. Who would be the right choice to become part of the large, delicious vegetable soup??
A vegetable theater is prepared, practiced and played very quickly.
You need:
- 1 carrot
- 1 broccoli
- 1 cucumber
- 1 apple
- 1 stick of leek
- 1 small pumpkin (decorative pumpkin)
(This list varies depending on the number of children involved or the types of vegetables and fruits available.)

That’s how it’s done:
Prepare a puppet theater before the game, or stretch a sheet or blanket over a child’s head into a door frame behind which the children can play. Each child can then choose a type of vegetable or fruit. This is speared on a fork. A child is playing the big soup pot. Now every child thinks of a name for their selected vegetables or fruits, such as Carrot Charlotte.
Before the game, the children are only roughly introduced to the plot. The game is then left to their imagination and interpretation. The action goes something like this:
1st scene:
The large soup pot complains that he has not been able to cook healthy vegetable soup for a long time, and wishes for a large number of vegetables that could become soup in it.
2nd scene:
The vegetables and fruits come and introduce themselves to the audience with names, etc. They talk to the saucepan whether they are allowed in the soup or not and then hop in. The apple (fruit!) May not come in and the cucumber may not, even though it is a vegetable.
3rd scene:
The saucepan is happy and counts everything one more time, which he then boils up into soup, bubbling and hissing.
The children speak the dialogues free. Of course, the course of action can change, which may also happen.

Great idea with the saucepan! A vegetable and fruit theater is perfect for autumn or Thanksgiving! It is important that the “props” are still edible afterwards! So go into the saucepan and cook a real soup from it !!
