A dental bridge is, as the name implies, a bridge over the tooth(s) that are missing that is anchored to the teeth on either side of the gap. The teeth on both sides of the gap are prepared to anchor the bridge. A dental bridge is a fixed, non-removable solution unlike a conventional prosthesis which is removable. If a single tooth is missing, you usually need a 3-tooth bridge to close the gap. If 2 teeth are missing next to each other, you will need a 4-tooth bridge and if 3 teeth are missing in the same row, you will need a 5-tooth bridge. Simply count the number of missing teeth and add an extra tooth/crown at each end to calculate the size of the bridge you need.
Although the crowns are joined together to form the bridge, they will appear to the naked eye as individual teeth, so the end result is natural in appearance. Since a dental bridge is a fixed solution, full functionality in terms of chewing and speaking is provided.
