Cornwall is the most popular family holiday destination in southern England and here we have put together our top 5 tips for you to enjoy a picnic in fantastic surroundings on the beach or in the midst of a rural idyll.

1 For a picnic with a great view, we recommend Kynance Cove on the Lizard Peninsula (the ten-minute walk from the parking lot is well worth it!). Lizard Point is the southernmost point on the mainland and offers wonderful walks along the dramatic cliffs littered with wildflowers.

2 Porthcurno, Cornwall is one of the finest bays with a white sandy beach and views of the Minack Theater.

3 St Helen’s is one of the uninhabited Isles of Scilly , by boat from St Mary’s or Bryher to reach and where you can enjoy nature and especially the bird life in all its glory.

4 Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps offer spectacular views from the crest of Bedruthan Beach, the ideal place for a picnic.

5 Restmorel Castle, this ruined castle from the 13th century AD. was built above the River Fowey and offers a panoramic view of the landscape. In spring, the area is littered with beautiful daffodils and bluebells.

Fowey Hall Hotel is a family-friendly luxury hotel in a spectacular location with a view of the coastal town of Fowey on the south coast of Cornwall

It is generally believed that this historic Victorian mansion was the inspiration for Toad Hall Castle from Kenneth Grahame’s classic children’s book “The Wind in the Willows” from the early 20th century.

UrlaubCornwall visited the hotel on a beautiful, sunny day, ideal for a pleasant lunch or a drink on the garden terrace, while enjoying the wonderful lake view and a walk around the large, well-kept garden.

The individually decorated hotel rooms reflect the history of the impressive building, which was built by a timber trader who made his fortune in Canada. And of course modern luxury is not neglected either.

Families can get to know each other particularly well on holiday. Small children are offered a free hotel kindergarten and the older children and teenagers have a lot of fun in the play and cinema rooms – and the parents can relax in the 12m indoor pool with whirlpool and wellness complex. The pool and wellness facilities are located in a nice annex near the main house, where guests of all ages can take a break.

Hotel with sea view

There are casual bistro dining options for the whole family, and if parents and couples want to take a break, there is also a fine dining restaurant for dinner for two. The award-winning menus are prepared from local ingredients from land and sea and served in the Hanson’s dining room, an impressive wood-paneled room with a view of the garden.

The Fowey Hotel is ideal for a relaxing holiday in South Cornwall or just for a stopover on a trip to this beautiful part of southern England, for example if you want to visit nearby attractions such as the Eden Project or the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
