For example, there is the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski area or the Flachau ski area, where both beginners and professionals can make the slopes unsafe. Of course, one is also attuned to the needs of the little snow rabbits: in addition to ski schools, there are also ski kindergartens in which the offspring are lovingly looked after when the parents want to dash down the slopes on their own. Of course there are also many family hotels and holiday apartments in the region, so that nothing stands in the way of your winter holiday in the Salzburg region!
An excursion to the city of Mozart
What would be a vacation in the Salzburg region without a visit to the city of Mozart? With over 100 churches, palaces and palaces, Salzburg is always worth a stroll through the city. Large parts of the old town are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You should definitely stroll through the Getreidegasse, which is known for the many iron signs, through houses, historical buildings and as the center of the former trade. Mozart’s birthplace is located here among numerous boutiques and cafés.
The fortress railway takes you to Hohensalzburg Fortress, which towers over the city. The largest fully preserved castle in Europe not only gives you a fantastic view over Salzburg and the mountains, but also shows you how the Salzburg princes and archbishops secured their wealth and rule here for centuries. A guided tour through the state rooms, chapels, armories and museums will surely amaze you and the children more than once.
You will also be thrilled by the Eisriesenwelt Werfen! The world’s largest ice cave system was discovered by accident and has fascinated visitors ever since with huge, never-melting ice formations.
Discover the wonderful nature
Nature lovers will get their money’s worth in the Hohe Tauern National Park, the oldest national park in Austria and the largest protected area in the Alps. After marveling at 3D landscapes and 360-degree panoramas at the National Park Center in Mittersill, you can see the whole thing live and in color: Nowhere else in Austria are the peaks so high and nature so untouched. The highest mountains in Austria are located in the Hohe Tauern National Park, including the Großglockner.
Bye bye bye! If you hear this sound, you are spot on! The Pölltal am Katschberg is a small landscape conservation area that is closed to motorists in the summer months. The only motorized transport system is the Tschu-Tschu-Bahn, a slow train with space for up to 50 people. At a leisurely pace you drive past crystal-clear mountain lakes and impressive peaks – surely a highlight on your family holiday in the Salzburg region!
