How to keep my children happy in the car?

I show you today my entertainment box that I packed the boys for the long car ride from germany to spain. The box shown was intended for the return journey to spain (1100 kilometers each way). For a distance of 500 kilometers I would pack less, of course, everything should be in proportion somehow.

my boys are 2, 4 and 6 years old. For the smallest the tips are only conditionally suitable it is however also very frugal and looks gladly at books or plays with its car or eats grapes.

The preparations

I don’t buy everything directly before the trip, because that would be quite expensive of course.

I do it rather in such a way that I pack away given books or sticker albums directly secretly, if there are to the birthday anyway already very many things. Or put toys away a month before the trip, so that they are interesting again in the car.

or i buy the things cheap when i see them just reduced.

I will put links (affiliate links) to amazon, so you can have a look at the things in peace and maybe put them on your watch list. I forget it otherwise because again and again what is suitable for long trips and so you can always look it up.

Entertainment on the go

So I pack in our boxes when we are driving for a very long time:

– headphones (alternatively these here) and an old ipod from us, played with audio books.

– empty notebooks for drawing together with pens in a pen roll

– sticker albums from usborne or a booklet from was ist was (what is what)

– for each (big) son one of those stupid magazines from the supermarket

– everyone gets to pick ONE favorite toy to take with them in the car. They always choose with a lot of thought and really appreciate it on the road and deal with it.

A good idea are also tiptoi pens and books. Even the two year old likes to use them with us and they are therefore also suitable for longer journeys. If you have headphones with you, you will even have some peace in time!

snacks are very important

And don’t forget, we also need really well-filled snack boxes for survival.

To get you started, I’ll fill your sigikid lunchboxes with sandwiches, snacks, grapes and a few sweets. The boxes I then fill as needed with snacks, sandwiches, apples, grapes, sweet things and salty things again. I store them all in the front with me handy.

Give best nothing with chocolate and nothing with sugar icing. This sticks both quite badly and chocolate makes of course also stains what on the way really nerves.

And this works in the child seat??

We have knee trays from amazon that serve very well. We have these. Not particularly great or fancy, but they do the job and weren’t too expensive.

I have noticed with my children that such an intensive preparation pays off extremely and they are much more patient when driving long distances. That’s why I like to do it and I’m happy when we arrive quickly at our destination without cranky children.

I hope that one or the other idea is there for you and wish you a relaxed journey with the children at any time!
