DIY party decorations and craft ideas

The party utensils you can still complement with DIY deco. We have two craft ideas that you can implement for the birthday party. Either they use the craft tips as decoration highlights for the party and put them on the birthday table, for example, or they make them – depending on how old the little car fans are – at the party together with the children.

Craft idea 1: magnetic highway

You need:
the lid of a shoebox
gray cardboard
ruler, pencil, cutter (it can also be scissors)
black and white felt tip pen
wax crayons or other colorful markers
glue
strong magnets (office supplies or hardware store)
small toy cars

How to do it:
1. Measure the inside of the lid, transfer the measurements to the gray cardboard and cut with a ruler and cutter or scissors for this purpose.

2. Now we draw our route on it, then paint it with a thick black felt-tip pen. The white center stripes must not be missing of course. Houses are built on the traffic islands and grass grows there too.

3. When the course is ready, the painted cardboard can be glued inside the lid. while the little racers are painting the cardboard, they can glue the magnets under the cars. Attention: the magnets must be somewhat stronger, otherwise the magnetic attraction will not work.

4. Let the glue harden – then you can put the car on the track and move it with a second magnet from the back side. Brrum-bbrrum! Who turns the most laps?

craft idea 2: racing car made of cardboard rolls

you will need:
cardboard rolls (z. B. From toilet paper)
poster paint, brushes and old newspaper
black photo cardboard
round clasps
silver adhesive tape
office stapler (tucker)
cutter, scissors, glue
white or grey crepe paper
circle punch with a diameter of about 2.5 cm or alternatively a compass or a small shot glass + pencil

Here’s how:
1. paint the cardboard tubes on an old newspaper in bright colors.

2. While the paint is drying, the wheels can be cut out of black cardboard. Clearly, four wheels are needed for every car!

Tip: the fastest way is to use a circle punch (ca. 2.5 cm in diameter), but you can also use a compass or a small glass to cut out the circles from the black photo cardboard.

3. Once the poster paint has dried, you can lightly squeeze the tube – but don’t bend it! Now cut a rectangle in the rear third with the cutter. but this is only cut on three sides, then the square is bent upwards like a door.

4. To form the hood, fold the cardboard roll in a bit on the left and right and press it together. But don’t glue them up yet – otherwise the wheels won’t attach so well.

5. Carve the wheels a little in the middle, and also carve four small slits along the tube. Now you can attach the wheels to the cardboard roll with the clamps. Now you can glue the bonnet together with a strip of silver tape.

6. Now comes the very best: the dust cloud! Cut a narrow strip off the end of the crepe paper roll, divide it into smaller strips and glue them to the back of the tube. Press the tail together a little and close it in the middle with an office stapler. on the left and right side of the staple put the cardboard back into a round shape – so it looks like two big exhaust pipes. Now the race can start!

Snacks for hungry drivers

Birthday cake for car fans

as a birthday cake you can make a round cake, on which you can place the cake topper cars place. For the cake you only have to take into account that the top layer is not made of cream. Otherwise the cake topper will soften too quickly. The red race car from cars looks great on the cake, or? The birthday guests will be thrilled! Another option is to decorate the birthday child’s favorite cake with toy cars. Have a look at our construction site cake!

Fast snack

A second idea for a party snack is a roll, which you can turn into a delicious car with only a few ingredients.

For one snack car each you need
1 bun
1 hard boiled egg
1 to 2 radishes (possibly. cherry tomato)
4 toothpicks
2 cloves (spice) for the eyes or edible sugar eyes

This is how you prepare the car:
1. Let the hard-boiled egg cool and free it from the shell! Then use a small knife to cut a hole in the bun where the egg (i.e. the driver) will later be placed.

2. for the wheels, cut slices from radishes (or cherry tomatoes), which you can attach to the bun with the help of toothpicks. You can shorten the toothpicks beforehand. If you like, you can also attach a car sign to the front of the roll with a small piece of cheese.

3. Once the wheels are on the car, you can put the egg into the bun. For the eyes of the driver you can use two cloves, for the nose a piece of the radish greens. If you want the driver to wear a little hat, you can also use a slice of radish and a small piece of toothpick to put it on the egg’s head!

Game ideas for the car party

From the games on the car birthday you can make a driving test. All children will receive a driving license (like a certificate) after the game, which they can take home with them.

Race
to a car birthday also belong betting races, or? Here are two versions you can implement: the bobby car race and the mini car race. For the first race you need two bobby cars. Two little racers compete here and sit on the toy cars. Beforehand, a distance is determined which the children have to cover. Who is the first to reach the finish line?

For the second race, you need two remote-controlled cars, which of course must be about the same speed. (surely there will be volunteers who want to test this before the party). Who can steer his car around the bends the fastest??

No matter how you run the race, each racer gets a medal. Because with our little racers there are only winners!

And if you like it really spectacular, there are also matching cars trophies available.

Car workshop
a good car driver also knows how his car works and is screwed together. For this driver’s license station, you can place nuts and bolts for each child in a small bowl or plate. the goal of this game is to turn every nut on a bolt. Who is the fastest car mechanic?

Another idea for the car workshop is to put LEGO bricks in the middle of the table and let the children build a car out of them. You can simply put the colored bricks in a glass bowl. This just looks great! Put a card with "car repair shop" on it stands. If there is an already built car made of LEGO bricks next to it, the little car fans will certainly not be able to keep still and will immediately want to build the most amazing vehicles!

parking lot
for this game you need at least 10 to 12 toy cars. Place them neatly next to each other like on a parking lot (for example on a tray), even in two or three rows. Cover the parking lot with a cloth. The children should gather around the parking lot. Take the cloth up and let the boys carefully memorize the parking lot. Then put the cloth back on the tray and secretly remove a car. Now the mini drivers can take a look at the parking lot again. Who can tell which car has disappeared from the parking lot?? You can play this game until the parking lot is empty.

Red& green traffic light
for this birthday game you will need a green and a red sign (or a red sign) a police trowel). All children line up at a starting line, they stand at the finish line. When the traffic light shows green, everyone can start running. If the traffic light shows red, you have to stop. Which racer will be the first to reach the finish line?

To the playing

at the end of the game round, you can hand over a driver’s license to the children. just fill in the names and then at the end of the game (the driving test) hand over the driver’s license to each child. The little racers will be mighty proud!

Before going home again

If you have the opportunity, you can take a picture of the boys in a car at the end of the party (if you don’t have one, maybe a friend or neighbor can help you out)?). You put the boys behind the wheel of the car and take a picture. after all, every driver needs this for his license. You can print the photos right away (if you have a printer) or you can send them by mail to the parents of the children after the party. This is a nice memory of a racy birthday party!
