You have a question about car insurance?

Our MLP motor vehicle service center can help you:

More expensive for some, cheaper for others: the new regional classes for car insurance recently published by the German Insurance Association (GDV) are causing a shift in car insurance rates. This will change the basis of calculation for many drivers in this country. In 2021, almost 4.8 million car owners will move up to a higher – and therefore more expensive – regional class for motor liability insurance. At the same time, around 4.5 million drivers will benefit from lower premiums.

Expensive big cities

Berlin will remain the most expensive place in germany to insure your car in the coming year. The capital city remains in the highest regional class, as do hamburg, munich, nuremberg, essen and other major cities. The current GDV regional statistics also mean changes in the regional classes of comprehensive insurance for many drivers: almost 3.4 million fully or partially comprehensive policyholders will have better classifications in the future, and 3.2 million will have higher classifications. For almost 80 percent or. Around 29.6 million everything stays the same.

But the level of insurance premiums depends on more than just the regional classes. The type of car you drive (type class) and, above all, your personal damage statistics also have an effect on the tariffs. For example, drivers who have not had an accident for many years and do not cause any costs for the insurance company are placed in a higher damage-free class (SF) and receive a discount. New drivers usually start with SF0.

Change insurance – now is the best time

Most insurance contracts can be terminated by 30. November of a year can be terminated. There is also a special right of termination at any time in the event of price increases, a claim or the purchase of a new car. As with the regular cancellation, a cancellation period of 4 weeks must be observed.

When choosing insurance, consumers should not only look at the price, but also at the terms and conditions of the contract, such as the amount of coverage, scope of application and the small print. It makes sense, for example, to include a "waiver of the objection of gross negligence" in the contract.

Take advantage of savings potential

Comprehensive insurance policyholders can save up to 35 percent if they agree to a deductible and pay part of the damage out of their own pocket in the event of an insurance claim. Further discounts are possible by binding the policy to a repair shop or restricting the number of drivers.

You can also save money by paying your car insurance premiums in one lump sum – rather than in several installments. According to a study by the consumer portal finanztip.monthly payments cost an average of 9.5 percent more than annual payments. Those who pay semi-annually still have to reckon with a surcharge of four percent on average. Tip: save a fixed amount each month in a savings account for the annual transfer.
