Sankt peter ording with children – short trip

Here it was a little quiet last week, here in North Rhine-Westphalia is Corpus Christi holiday and the school of the great also had the bridge day free. We were able to get into the house of a colleague of the landlord in Sankt Peter Böhl at short notice, since he also had to work there anyway. When we leave, he usually works in the mornings, in the afternoons we do something and in the evenings he works again when the children go to bed or watch TV. Since the house was private, we left Wednesday evening at 9:00 p.m. and then we were in Sankt Peter Ording without traffic jams at 2:00 a.m. Le >

Sankt Peter Ording

Sankt Peter Ording is not, as I thought as a geography muffle, a larger place, but consists of several parts such as Sankt Peter-Dorf, Sankt Peter-Bad and where we lived Böhl and other parts (as also Sankt Peter Ording says there man SPO) on the coast. Unlike I know it from Holland, there is not a long coherent beach behind dunes or dykes, but there is beach in some places, but mostly a bit further out, in between are salt marshes (thanks to Wikipedia, I have now learned that they are also typical of Halligen are). In any case, it is often longer walkways, which you should plan with children. So either a stretcher, a buggy or carts take it with you or see when and how the bus runs or where you can park on the beach * (* more on that in a moment).

The daily price as a tourist is 3 € tourist tax per adult, the children costs nothing yet. So we paid € 6 a day. If you go to the beach, there is a very friendly (!) Employee and gives information and cashes. I noticed that every day: everyone is extremely friendly.

The places are small and very well cleaned, there are many small shops, more expensive, so chains of more expensive brands. There are also restaurants, breweries and cafes for every taste. Bicycle rentals are everywhere, since the distances are often long, a bicycle is the optimal means of transportation, bicycle trailers for small children and bicycle seats are also rented. There is also a typical North Sea play house. There are also supermarkets and a drugstore. So you can shop there at normal prices and get products like sunscreen.

The beaches in Sankt Peter-Ording

The beaches of Sankt Peter Ordines are a bit south and a bit north. We found the plans somewhat irritating, because they mostly show the beach at complete low tide. The first beach that we headed for was 800m walk from the "beach", so we walked to the beach (there is a bus twice an hour, which is included with the tourist tax, according to the employee), where there is a small beach was, but far from the sea, to the sea there were only meadows and mudflats. No trace of the sandy beach seen in the plan. We are then (by bus) back to the parking lot (€ 3 per day) and further north to the beach in Ording.

There was also "beach parking". We still had to pay the difference to the € 3 because beach parking costs € 6. Then you drive to the parking lot on the beach. CAUTION: as not only we noticed, you get stuck in the sand very quickly if you don’t have an off-road vehicle. The first time we were able to dig ourselves freely, the next day the beach guard dragged us out.

Therefore: it is better to only drive on firm sand. If you get stuck, go to the beach attendant, they are prepared for it and pull the car out with their vehicle free of charge. We were not the only ones … the absolute highlight for our children, which was then played extensively on the beach. Also very nice, everyone helps each other there, because driving in the sand is obviously not uncommon.

The beach there is wide, really more beautiful lighter and on dry sand, there are beach chairs (I read the rental fee of € 8 per day), beach cafes, toilets and the sea is quite flat and only a few watts.

We noticed, however, that the beach cafes on the beach (in SPO there are stilt houses) to make early, so after 5 p.m. there was no more ice cream and also the chips that children loved in Holland as dinners on the beach.

Nevertheless, the beach was perfect for the children, they played a lot, romped in the shallow water and built with sand. We also tried the south beach further south, where it is shown broadly, but there was also hardly any dry, light sand, but a mixture of sand and mudflats and you had to walk very far to the water. There are also beach parks there.

Excursions with children nearby

We were mainly on the beach or the children played around the house in the garden. However, we visited three destinations, we did not manage to achieve one this time, the children would still like to be Robbarium, the seal station drove in Friedrichskoog, because our navigation system took over an hour for the 36km, it was too short on Sunday.

The footpath to the Westerhever lighthouse

Our first goal was recommended to us by everyone, we are going to Lighthouse in Westerhever hazards. This classic lighthouse stands 3x />From the parking lot there are about 2.5 km walk across the salt marshes to the lighthouse, the paths are firm and easy to drive with prams or bicycles. There was a bike rental directly at the parking lot, the bikes cost 5 € per day according to the sign. Unfortunately we went on foot, but the path dragged in the blazing sun, so I would recommend bikes. The path and the lighthouse are beautiful and there is a toilet and a mini museum with an aquarium at the lighthouse. Back we walked the narrow footpath through the salt marshes (the buggy, our owner carried our iCandy Raspberry) with some wooden bridges that didn’t calm me down. The kids loved the trip. (As there is only ice cream and food at the parking lot, think about provisions). In addition, sheep grazed everywhere and also walked across the path.

We were also in the "Dutch town" Friedrichstadt, you park a little away from the old town, but the walk across the bridge takes less than 5 minutes. The city is very cute and really reminiscent of the Netherlands, Dutch people apparently founded the city.

At the church, I was amazed at the inscription that Platt sounds like Dutch, only to find out that it was Dutch. There was just a classic car rally on the market square so there was something for the children to watch again. The place is small, but there are some cafes and a very tasty bakery on the market square.

By chance we had a sign on the way to the "Mansion Hoyerswert“Seen, so quickly looked on the Internet and it looked cute. The manor house is located in a beautiful park with sculptures and in the manor house itself you can visit three rooms above, below and outside is a small café with ice cream and cake.

It was wonderfully quiet because there was a toy box and very warm owners, the children had a lot of fun romping, we practiced jumping rope and were looking at the pottery. At the moment they are rebuilding, they are building a restaurant in the old barn and we took a flyer with them because they rent apartments there. The house does not cost admission, but they are happy about donations.

We will definitely be back

The weather also played along, although Saturday and Sunday were not as warm anymore. In any case, Sankt Peter Ording is a nice destination for families, for us a little further than to Zoutelande. There are innumerable accommodations from hotels to apartments to holiday homes. It would probably be more practical to live closer to the northern beach, we were all the way south. Next time we’ll take our own bicycles with us, unfortunately the house lacked a suitable one for the middle, but it wasn’t really worth borrowing. Unlike in Holland, I found the paths all very long, so not always good for smaller children to run themselves, especially in the heat. Beaches are often more tidal flats than sandy beaches, so we liked it best on the northern beach. From NRW the route is quite at risk of traffic jams, which is why we drove around 9 p.m. in the evening, which is rather unfavorable for rented holiday homes. So we got there in 4.5 hours.

All in all it sounds very nice. We are usually on the beach with the kids once a year in Holland and that’s how I actually imagined Sankt Peter Ording – only with a giant beach &# 128578; Well, maybe you have to get an idea of yourself.
Thank you for the informative travel report!
