ABOUT THE MUSEUM – Students at the National Museums in Berlin

The ABOUT THE MUSEUM initiative places students in the focus of the educational work of the National Museums in Berlin. Various offers are aimed at students of all disciplines and all semesters. ABOUT THE MUSEUM offers a structural framework for cooperation and mutual exchange with students that is as diverse and versatile as the city of Berlin, the National Museums and the students themselves.

Interdisciplinarily and in confrontation with mediation, ABOUT THE MUSEUM aims to be able to adopt a critical-constructive attitude towards museums and their contents and, as active users* , to create visibility in the National Museums in Berlin. Workshops, events and seminars offer the opportunity to develop ideas and formats in which experimental, constructive and interactive approaches can be researched and developed. Beyond the regular course of studies, students will be able to design and test new ways of dealing with art and culture on their own responsibility.

In the 2014/15 winter semester, the National Museums in Berlin began collaborating with students and universities on the project “Over the short, medium or long term”, which was sponsored by the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. The first structures of a dynamic network between students, teachers and employees of the National Museums in Berlin developed over five semesters. ABOUT THE MUSEUM will expand and consolidate these activities through the following formats and events.

Participation in the offers of ABOUT THE MUSEUM is free of charge for students.
