Dental care for children: healthy teeth right from the start

As soon as the milk teeth appear, the right nutrition and dental care can create the basis for healthy teeth. DAK-Gesundheit pays the costs for the check-ups in children.

DAK-Gesundheit pays the prevention costs?

The cost of preventive check-ups at the dentist for infants and toddlers is borne by your DAK health.

The milk teeth are fully developed in children at the age of two, but the first tooth in the mouth (at around six months) is already susceptible to tooth decay. Dental prophylaxis is therefore a must for children as soon as the first tooth is visible in the oral cavity. Because: If damage to the milk teeth occurs, this often has ramifications for the permanent teeth. So take the annual checkups for the little ones.

Teeth and oral cavity are carefully examined during the early diagnosis. In some cases, the dentist also applies fluoride to the teeth. The mineral strengthens the tooth enamel and prevents tooth decay. The doctor also provides information about tooth-friendly nutrition and gives tips on proper care.

Dental exams for children between the ages of 6 and 36 months

Dental care for children begins between the 6th and 9th month of life with the first early diagnosis. The second examination takes place between the 10th and 20th month of life, the third should follow between the 21st and 33rd month. There are three additional appointments up to the age of 6.

As part of these additional examinations, the dentist checks your child’s dental health right from the start and informs you about risks and the protection against caries and diseases in the mouth. If necessary, parents also receive practical instructions for optimal dental care for their child.
DAK-Gesundheit bears all costs of these additional early detection examinations.

How does dental prophylaxis work for children aged 6 to 17?

From the age of six, the milk teeth gradually fall out. To ensure that the bit is still protected against tooth decay and gum disease, children from six years up to the age of majority receive so-called individual prophylaxis. DAK-Gesundheit pays for dental treatment.

The dentist checks oral hygiene, examines the gums and provides information on how to keep teeth healthy with the right nutrition and care. The interdental spaces are particularly susceptible to caries. No toothbrush gets in here, bacteria thrive here splendidly. This is why special aids are required that can be used to remove the bacteria with ease: interdental brushes or dental floss. The correct use of these aids is practiced during the prophylaxis sessions. The occlusal surfaces of the posterior posterior teeth also require thorough removal of the bacteria. In some cases, when the risk of caries is quite high, the dentist seals this area with a thin layer of plastic. Caries bacteria then have a harder time spreading.

Screening in the group

In addition, children under the age of twelve are made aware of dental health as part of group prophylaxis. This takes place in school or kindergarten directly on site. In addition to a check-up, the children receive age-appropriate tips for daily dental care and are informed about healthy eating. To do this, DAK-Gesundheit cooperates with dentists and health authorities in your region.

The secret of healthy teeth

Promote independence – what is the bonus book for children?

The dentist will hand out a bonus booklet to children aged twelve and over confirming the bi-annual check-ups.
