Healthy eating for children

The carnival celebration in kindergarten is over and was very nice. The parents also brought a lot with them to dinner, which was very well received by the children. What bothered me a bit is the children’s eating behavior. Unfortunately, a lot of parents brought all sorts of sweets with them. This has led to many of the children using the candy buffet. There were children who ate a whole pack of chips or gummy bears at once.

Dear parents: That’s not how it works. Of course, the children like that, but such eating behavior certainly doesn’t make sense. How self-evident some children have used makes me shudder. The event was certainly a special situation. Nevertheless, I believe that the eating habits of many children are also incorrect in everyday life and that the parents do not pay enough attention to a healthy diet.

How can our children (and we) live to be 100 years old??

Or: the secret of the centenarians!

Ancient and healthy at the same time – who doesn’t want that? There are still many people today (for whom the financial or economic crisis is in full swing) for whom health is a much greater happiness than money.

On Okinawa, a small group of islands about 400 nautical miles from Japan, it doesn’t seem unusual to grow old healthy. The average life expectancy for men is 84 years and women on average even over 90 years! The older people on Okinawa are also very healthy. Common ailments, hardening of the arteries, strokes, prostate and breast cancer or osteoporosis are almost unknown here. This phenomenon cannot be explained genetically, because when residents of Okinawa emigrate to other countries, life expectancy decreases in line with the country’s average life expectancy.

Nutritionists and aging researchers are interested in the reasons for healthy aging. For years, Okinawa women were interviewed and looked into the pots to solve the mystery. All kinds of bizarre tips came out. But there are also scientific reasons that came to light by comparing eating habits on Okinawa with those of the rest of Japan.

In contrast to the usual food offer in Japan, there was a much wider range of food on Okinawa. Because Okinawa is the hub for traders from all over Asia.
Fresh vegetables are much more common, e.g. the particularly vitamin-containing root vegetables, more meat, fish, tofu and algae, and much less salted was eaten because, unlike in Japan, there were fewer salty pickles here.
Fish and algae, for example, are excellent suppliers of proteins, but also of omega 3 fatty acids. These work particularly well for calcification of the arteries and heart problems. For example, kelp is said to contain good anti-cancer agents. Tofu and other soy products help prevent osteoporosis because they are rich in estrogen-like preparations.
However, it is not only a balanced diet that is important for a healthy long life. But also to belong as long as possible and to have a task. Work and independence have always been important terms on Okinawa. So even in old age, a little bit of work is still done to maintain the vital feeling of still being useful.
The warm climate on Okinawa also contributes to health as people are outdoors a lot. The contacts to neighbors are so strong and everyone notices if someone does not open the windows in the morning as usual or if he needs help in any way. Social cohesion is very pronounced here. Studies show that people with strong bonds get sick less often and live longer than isolated people. Ms. Okushima, who is already 95, reports that she walks, dances, drinks, talks and laughs along the beach on summer evenings.

The following welcome message is on Okinawa Beach:

"You are a child at 70, a young man or a young woman at 80, and if someone invites you to heaven at 90, tell them: go back and come back when I am 100."

Parent-child groups and play circles

Playing together and moving around between parents and children does not have to be limited to the family and the home environment. In recent years, more and more initiatives have been created that offer opportunities for parents and children and also increasingly include movement activities (e.g. family education centers, adult education centers, toddler groups and kindergartens that offer play circles as a time to get used to). These create new contact options for parents and children, give children a new field of experience outside the familiarity of the family and enable parents to exchange experiences with other adults.

The gymnastics and sports clubs with their parent-child groups are an important place for organized exercise activities. Here are mostly >

Smoking during pregnancy. Please do not.

About 20% of pregnant women are smokers and many of them also smoke during pregnancy. If the cigarette harbors major health risks before pregnancy, then nicotine is much more harmful to the unborn.
Are you pregnant and still smoke? If so, think quickly about giving up smoking or at least drastically reducing cigarette consumption. The consequences are too fatal not to take the problem very seriously. The chemical substances in the cigarette penetrate the placenta. Your baby is therefore no longer perfectly protected in your stomach! The risk of miscarriage also depends on your nicotine consumption. Smoking 20 cigarettes a day increases your risk of miscarriage by 20%. If you consume more than 30 cigarettes a day, the risk increases to 35%. Caution: Passive smoking also increases the risk of miscarriage! The risk of premature birth increases if you smoke during pregnancy. The risk of premature birth is also increased. Because a membrane rupture before the end of the normal 34 weeks of pregnancy occurs 3 times more often in smokers than in non-smokers. And even if the membranes are intact, the risk of premature birth is still twice as high.

Are you still not thinking of stopping roughening at least during pregnancy, even though the described consequences are a proven fact? Then, in my opinion, you can no longer be helped!

When should a child go to kindergarten??

Many parents probably ask themselves this question. In this posting I would like to express my opinion. I myself only came when I was 5 years old and I think that it has left no permanent damage. Well, that would be unthinkable today and that’s a good thing. What I cannot understand, however, is the fact that mothers are already looked at wrongly today when the child is only 3 years old in kindergarten. It has (I read at least once in the newspaper) scientifically proven that it is best for the child to stay at home until the age of 3.

There are certainly good reasons to let a child go to kindergarten earlier. This includes the exercise of the profession and the related income. Regardless of the income situation, there are also professional groups in which there are neither women nor men "Afford" can suspend in the long term. This includes professions related to information technology. If a mother stays at home with her child for 3 years, this is of course very good for the little one and also makes sense. At work, however, the mother (or father) will no longer be able to do the same job. After 3 years, to stay with the example, completely different requirements (e.g. through further developments of the software) are made on the employee. It can be said that the mother or father almost have to start all over again professionally. Depending on the age, this can be very difficult.

I often hear reasons like "The child learns songs and much more in kindergarten" and therefore it is good to let our little ones go to kindergarten as early as possible. Of course there is something there. In my opinion, however, only if the mother or father cannot muster the time and patience (my worst suspicion: or want to partially?) To play with the child or to do something. It is just "easier", to let the child go to kindergarten. There it will learn everything that is necessary. For example, the children are often not yet clean and much more. Then the educators should take care of it. As I said, this is certainly the easiest way, but does not correspond to my view of the world as a parent.

I know the posting is a bit provocative, but I have had a lot of experiences (also in my acquaintance). Nevertheless, I would like to emphasize that almost all parents only want the best for their children and there are different views on the topic of kindergarten with one, two or three. Feel free to post other opinions in the comments.

Places for play and exercise

The family provides in the first years of life most important influencing factor for the motor development of the children. The living environment already affects the children’s movement behavior, and movement stimuli can also emanate from the play material and furnishings in the apartment. The provision of material and space alone encourages children to exercise. In infancy and early childhood, the stimulation that comes from the immediate environment is a reason for active exploration. The personal relationships between parents and children are of particular importance here, because they decide about them, whether a child in his Development supported or limited becomes.

In the case of an overprotective parenting style, the child’s range of motion is usually restricted, while a granting parenting attitude supports the child in his independence development and gives him confidence in the expansion of his movement options.

The first day in kindergarten

The famous first day is an important experience for every child. It is the very first time for the little ones in the daycare or kindergarten. The older children experience the first day of school at primary or secondary school … The life of children is full of (new) beginnings and every first day marks a new chapter , and is another step towards independence. What can you do to best prepare your child for the big event? We give you useful tips so that your child starts the new school year well-armed after the holidays.

Get to know the crèche

The first day is actually not the very first day, since your child already got to know the caregivers and the rooms beforehand during a trial day or an open day. When you register your baby, you have to appear with your child several times. A visit is planned in most childcare centers. Walk around the room with your child in your arms, even when it’s small, and talk to him calmly. This gives your sweetheart the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the faces of the carers. Also play with your baby in the after-school care center to relieve his or her fears from the outset. In some daycare centers, there is an adjustment phase two weeks before the first day, which takes about two weeks. During this time, you leave your child in the crèche for about two hours a day and increase your absence a little more every day. However, find out beforehand whether your daycare center offers this, because for organizational reasons it is unfortunately not always possible.

Give your child security

Always explain to your child why it will be in this unknown environment from now on: you will start working again and he or she will have fun playing with the other babies there. Of course, your little sunshine doesn’t understand every word. But he notices the context and feels that you want to calm him down and cheer him up. Always say goodbye before you go and confirm to your child that you will pick them up at the end of the day. Give your baby a sound or t-shirt that you have worn and that smells of you. Ask the caregivers to place the garment next to the baby when she is sleeping. The first “real” day is here: repeat the above explanations, hug your child, say “bye” and leave without waiting: because the longer the parting scene lasts, the more dramatic it becomes for the child. This will cause your child to experience anxiety and will probably cry … Talk to yourself, because your child is in the best hands! So everything will go well. Also watch your own reactions: bet that this separation test is much more difficult for your little mouse than for you?

Preparation for kindergarten

All parents fear this moment a little! Tears do not necessarily have to flow. If possible, visit the kindergarten before the beginning of the school year and also try to meet the kindergarten teachers. Stay with your child and explain what the rooms are used for: “Here you hang your jacket, here you take off your shoes, here is the play area and here you take an afternoon nap with the other children." Build up the anticipation of the kindergarten a few days in advance: “The kindergarten is great, you can play with the other children, do handicrafts and do a lot of interesting things. And: You can do it, because you are already a big one! ”Together with your dwarf, buy the school supplies for“ big ones ”: a pencil case with age-appropriate pens, an apron for handicrafts, and slippers for kindergarten. and why not, if your child wants it, a mini schoolbag! Even if your child doesn’t need one yet, the symbol is important! If possible, take half a day or a whole day off: It is important for your child that he is not alone at this moment. Bring your offspring to bed early the night before. And when you go to bed, explain immediately what time he will get up the next day and what the daily routine looks like!

Accompany your child in the morning, but don’t talk too much about kindergarten. If you keep telling how great kindergarten is, you may be doing the opposite! Follow the guidelines in kindergarten: where do you take your shoes off, where does your jacket go, etc. Go to the group room, say goodbye and give your child a goodbye kiss. Say "I’ll pick you up tonight at x o’clock" and then go quickly. Never prolong the separation phase. That would only increase the difficulties if there were any. Even if it’s hard to bear, don’t let your child cry. The tears dry as soon as they are outside and your child plays with the others. In the evening, the focus is on the kindergarten newcomer: after a long day, your sweetheart may need to let off steam. Afterwards, listen when your child talks about their day and don’t bombard them with questions, even if you almost die of curiosity. Make a little joy for your child on this special day: a tiny school bag, your favorite meal or a cuddle lesson before going to sleep.
