From when to the (children’s) dentist?

Regular visits to the dentist are particularly important for your child – this is the only way to build trust in the treating doctor! (© Pediatric Dentist (c) Alen-D – fotolia) The question that parents are most concerned with is how many years should I take my child to the dentist? There are many and, above all, different recommendations that can be picked up among friends. From "only with toothache" to "in preschool age" to "when all milk teeth are there", there are many opinions on this question. The expert’s answer is: From the first tooth!

"Isn’t that a little early?", "Does it bring anything at all at that age?", "Do the children voluntarily open their mouths at that age?" Are frequently asked questions.

Choosing the right dentist

Basically, it is never too early to visit the dentist. However, it is important that you choose a dentist that specializes in the treatment of young children. This is the only way to guarantee that a comprehensive investigation will be successful from the start.

Advice is even more important: if parents are informed early enough how they can protect children’s teeth perfectly, the dentist and parents can ensure that tooth decay never occurs. This is a very important goal for a pediatric dentist!

And even if you are already well informed, a short examination, which is really fun for the children, can give individual advice and thus make a significant contribution to dental health. Every child is different. And that’s just as well. It is all the more important to look after each individual child through a special preventive program.

Go safe!

Another important reason why children should go to the dentist as early as possible: Over 50% of all children suffer a dental accident! It’s good when you see a familiar face in the dental practice that you trust in such an exceptional situation. No stranger who stands in front of you and happens to be on emergency duty.

Trust is an enormously important prerequisite for successful child treatment at the dentist. This trust takes time. This happens when the relationship between doctor and child can grow from an early age. This is not only an advantage in the case of dental accidents, the children also feel well cared for if they need treatment (e.g. milk fillings) and like to go to the dentist.

dental fear

Oral hygiene is also very important for children! (© Kzenon – fotolia) This leads us to the next important aspect: Most of the adults who are afraid of the dentist have had bad experiences in this area in childhood. Fear of the dentist arises in childhood. At the pediatric dentist, a lot of time and patience is invested so that fear does not arise in the first place.

The children are playfully prepared for treatments that they experience as something completely natural and positive. With a lot of love and empathy, combined with professional leadership, the treatment works much better!
