Hiking with children on Lake Garda

Our insider tips for hikes with children on Lake Garda
Beautiful lake in the mountains with dolce vita? Lake Garda is one of the first lakes in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by car, which is also surrounded by mountains and has a real Italian romantic flair. It is not for nothing that our children like it so much on Lake Garda – and of course we adults too. For all of us, the lake in Italy is a particularly great destination for a family vacation. I will show you where it is particularly worth hiking on Lake Garda!

When to hike on Lake Garda with children?

The right time for hiking on Lake Garda
Family hikes on Lake Garda are particularly pleasant in April, May and autumn. September or October is very fine, then the temperatures are pleasantly warm and perfect for hiking. In the summer months, the south-facing hikes are not particularly attractive for children because the heat is very high. We were in spring before the season. It was very great, not so hot yet and the flowers bloomed. Unfortunately the water was too cold for bathing. But it was perfect for a hiking holiday! And there was really little going on. I like that when there are no crowds of people.

Walking tours with prams on Lake Garda
We have selected the most beautiful hikes with children – and discovered some that we can recommend to you. Right in the north of Lake Garda there are numerous smaller hikes that can be perfectly done with children, including strollers. Families who are on vacation with prams can take the little tour from Riva up to the bastion.

The cobblestone hiking trail to the bastion with its all-terrain stroller offers good access to a beautiful viewpoint over Lake Garda. Or you take a baby carrier with you, so it doesn’t jerk in the car. The cobblestone is pretty big. At the top of the small pram hike on Lake Garda there is this great view of the lake:

Monte Brione hike with children

The hike from Riva to Monte Brione is just as impressive. You can also get up with a pram on a paved road. Families who hike without a pram can walk the hiking path over the old bunker systems. A piece of history that is interesting for children.

Hike to Arco Castle

Another destination with prams on Lake Garda is Arco Castle. Here you can hike up a circular path from the old town with the many small picturesque alleys to the mighty tower. A great walk we enjoyed. Here is a picture of our trip to Arco with the kids, we made our Arco trip by bike:

The high altitude hike in Torbole with children. Sentiero Busatte

The high-altitude hike from Torbole to Tempesta is attractive and entertaining for hiking with children. Parents enjoy the fantastic view during a family vacation in Italy, children are delighted by the impressive steel giants – huge stairways (well secured) that lead over the rocky terrain. At the starting point in Torbole there is also a high ropes course for children who want to climb more. For me it was the most beautiful hike on Lake Garda. This is where the picture was taken, which can be seen at the top of this website.

Hike to the Varone waterfall with children

The hike in the north of Riva is varied: first walk the Varone waterfall and then hike up the hiking path to the old town of Tenno. The waterfall below is very beautiful for children, parents are thrilled by the old alleys in Tenno. The old Tenno is one of the most beautiful historical villages in Italy! The waterfall hike is also popular as a group excursion. So it’s best to come here in the morning.

-> definitely here to the Varone waterfall!
