Vaginal dryness: symptoms, causes – treatment

over vaginal dryness Women do not talk at all and suffer silently. This can affect sexuality just as much as it does one’s dry vagina inflammatory diseases can be the result.

Symptoms of vaginal dryness

If the woman experiences vaginal dryness, it can be a severe itching and burning sensation. This can cause severe pain, especially during intercourse. This usually affects more menopausal women, but young women may also be affected by vaginal dryness. Not enough vaginal fluid is produced here, which causes the vagina to lose its natural protection. As a rule, a milky-whitish liquid is produced daily. This is often referred to as outflow, but is an important protection. Because this outflow prevents bacteria from settling in the vagina. Normally about 2 to 5 grams of the vaginal fluid are produced daily. If it is less, then it is generally spoken of a vaginal dryness. However, these are only guideline values, because how much vaginal fluid is really important, depends on the feeling of each woman. However, if it comes to a discoloration of the discharge, a doctor should be consulted in any case. Because of this vaginal dryness The urinary tract can also be affected. This is mostly due to a bacterial infection, which can be very painful when urinating.

Causes of vaginal dryness

On the one hand a distinction is made between purely psychological factors and on the other hand between purely physical factors. The psychological factors include stress, nervousness and anxiety. In addition, problems in the partnership can be manifested by vaginal dryness. Other triggers can be traumatic experiences or mental illnesses. The physical factors are, for example, the circumstances and lifestyle. Smoking can cause vaginal dryness as well as hormone fluctuations. Such hormone fluctuations often occur during pregnancy, lactation, by taking the micropill or during menopause. But certain diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, multiple sclerosis can lead to vaginal dryness. In addition, cancer treatment such as ovarian removal, radiation or hormone withdrawal therapy can lead to vaginal dryness.

Following a vaginal dryness

Especially during intercourse, it can lead to small cracks in the vagina, which are then very painful. However, the vaginal skin can also get small cracks in severe and prolonged drought. Here then bacteria can penetrate unhindered and thus cause an inflammation. Such inflammations can even penetrate into the uterus and urinary tract, which can then be very painful. Therefore, with persistent vaginal dryness a doctor should be consulted so that the moisture balance in the vagina can be normalized again. For often these women also suffer from listlessness, so they only have little desire for sex. This burdened not only the women, but the whole partnership.

Treatment for vaginal dryness

First, the gynecologist will want to find out the cause before it can come to a treatment. Therefore, the information should be very accurate, so that then the necessary treatment takes place. If it is a matter of estrogen deficiency, as it can occur during menopause, the doctor will prescribe appropriate preparations. If it is a diabetes or high blood pressure problem, first take a closer look at the prescribed tablets. Often, patients are not properly adjusted, which can then cause the vaginal dryness. If all these are not the causes, a so-called smear is made. Here, the PH value in the vagina is checked. If the pH does not fall within the range of 3.5 to 4.5, this may be a sign of a hormone disorder. However, a so-called smear is always important, so that a bacterial infection can be excluded. In such cases, creams and pills help, so that the inflammation goes away quickly. So women should not wait for vaginal dryness, but always act quickly.

Prevent vaginal dryness

Alkaline soaps attack the natural acid mantle of the skin and are therefore taboo in the genital area. A complete waiver of care products in the genital area makes sense. During menstruation, women should resort to bandaging rather than to tampons that can additionally scorch the vagina.
