4 child-friendly hikes in South Tyrol

Between the Ortler and the spectacular crenellations of the Dolomites, wild mountain landscapes with exciting gorges and waterfalls beckon. We present 4 adventure hikes in South Tyrol that impress children and adults alike.

1. To the earth pyramids of Terento

Mill and panorama trail in the Puster Valley: The hike leads from Terento mostly along the Terentner stream to the earth pyramids. The brook rises on the 2,700 m high lizard peak, the "Hegedex", as it is called by the locals. The energy of the stream was used early on to drive the mills from the region. All in all a rewarding hike that has a lot of potential for children to discover.

2. Round trip in the Ortler Alps

Between eternal ice and green paradise: The starting point of this hike is the Gasthof Enzianhütte (parking facilities). From there, you first follow a comfortable hiking trail through forest and pasture to the Zufallhütte (2,265 m). The path no. 150 leads from there over a small rock step and the impressive panorama of the Marteller glacier path opens up. Via path no.103 you finally reach the Marteller Hütte (2,585 m). The descent follows the paths with the numbers 40 and 37. The last weekend in June in Martelltall is particularly worthwhile for children: the big strawberry festival takes place there – including the largest strawberry cake in the world!

3. Watles adventure mountain

Picturesque mountain lake and children’s attractions: the adventure mountain Watles in the Vinschgau promises an eventful day. After the 4-seater chairlift, families can look forward to a play lake with a raft, a gold panning station, a barefoot waterway and a free tubing run at an altitude of over 2,000 m. You can also take a taster course in archery. After a short climb you reach the picturesque Pfaffensee, which offers a refreshing dip in summer.
