Making herbal salt yourself is easy with the kids. Above all, collecting herbs is a lot of fun for the outdoor kids. What you find in the garden or on the meadow comes into the herbal salt. A perfect gift is the homemade herb salt. Our recipe for herbal salt is also suitable for a children’s birthday party. Instead of the children bringing home a small plastic bag with sweets, they are given a bag of homemade fresh herb salt.

"One bag gets my grandma, the other bag gets my mom and the third bag gets my sister!" A girl tells me enthusiastically. With the pestle, it presses strongly into the mixture of salt and herbs. It already has three paper bags with homemade herb salt in front of it. Everywhere at the table it smells of herbs. The ratio of salt to herbs should be eight to two. Add 80 grams of herbs to 80 grams of salt. But please no broken dried ones from the supermarket. Freshly collect the herbs with the kids. What you add to the salt is up to you. Sage, chives, chervil, thyme, wild garlic or rosemary have proven their worth.

For the herbal salt you need coarse-grained rock salt or sea salt. You save yourself the fleur de sel that is so popular with these unfortunate cooking shows. You also need a pocket knife, a cutting board, a mortar with pestle and a paper bag to fill the herb salt.

Now muscle strength is required. With the pestle you crush the coarse-grained salt. It grates tremendously in the mortar. Mix the herb-salt mix again and again with the pestle and press into small pieces.
