Come on, let’s discover the Allgäu!

Due to its rural structure with mountains, lakes and enchanting forests, you will feel at home from the start on a family holiday in the Allgäu. The accommodation options in the Allgäu range from hotels in the upscale segment to pensions and farms and holiday apartments. The variety of different family accommodations in the Allgäu is really impressive. Holidays on the farm are particularly popular with families with small children. The larger cities in the Allgäu include Füssen, Kempten, Memmingen and Marktoberndorf. A wonderful shopping spree can also be done here. The Allgäu is particularly known for its culinary specialties. After a strenuous hike, you can enjoy the delicious delicacies on an alpine pasture in particular. Pure country life!

A winter sports paradise

In winter, the Allgäu is a real paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. The numerous slopes are geared towards beginners and ski professionals, making the region a dream destination that has something to offer for all ages. Beginners can have fun in Oberstaufen, Wiggensbach or Nesselwang, for example. Ski courses, even for the little ones, are also offered. So parents can enjoy a few hours on their family vacation while their children learn to ski. All small snow hares who already master skiing can use the family to make the slopes in the Oberjoch ski area, on the Nebenhorn or in the Tannheimer Valley, which is already on the Austrian side, unsafe. By the way, tobogganing is not a problem in the Allgäu either. In almost every place there is a sledge slope where children of the same age can meet and whiz through the snow! In winter, the Allgäu is a truly perfect destination for family holidays – enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the snow-covered forests and mountains and just switch off!

Immerse yourself in the world of the nobility

The Allgäu is home to the most famous castle in Germany. Here Ludwig II built his fairytale castle Neuschwanstein Castle, which is one of the most visited castles in Europe today. What is special is not only the impressive architecture, but also its location. Neuschwanstein Castle is located on a mountain surrounded by the forest and nature of the Allgäu. If you want to experience the castle from a very special perspective, you have an excellent view of the building from the Marienbrücke. From the inside you can look forward to magnificent impressions that regularly amaze young and old visitors. A tour of the royal rooms with all the pomp really appeals to the whole family. The kids would definitely like to be a prince or princess themselves. Hohenschwangau Castle is directly opposite and was built on an old castle ruin and is the place where King Ludwig II spent his childhood. The idyll of the Allgäu has enchanted people for centuries. The two castles are therefore a wonderful destination for a hiking holiday with children – nature and culture come together in the Allgäu!

So many beautiful goals

The Forggensee is located near Füssen in the so-called Königswinkel region. The reservoir is the fifth largest lake in Bavaria. During your vacation with the family, this is a great destination in the Allgäu. Large and small seafarers have the opportunity to set sail in the Forggenseeschiffahrt and go swimming in the refreshing water. Of course, hiking is also on the list of activities during family holidays in the Allgäu. Among the numerous hiking trails, there are challenging mountain tours with a magnificent view as well as trails that are perfect for a hiking vacation with children and offer a no less beautiful panorama. A holiday region that children and adults enjoy equally on holiday.

In the Allgäu region, you will also learn how delicious cheese is made: families can find out how cheese is made from milk during their holidays in show dairies, such as the Walder Käskuche in Ostallgäu. Of course, the cheese is also so well known for its Allgäu milk – and the typical Allgäu brown cattle that graze in the meadows are always an attraction for children!

Family break

A trip to the Skyline Park in Bad Wörishofen in the Unterallgäu district is worthwhile. The amusement park offers numerous attractions such as a roller coaster, sky rafting and a petting zoo for families with small children. If you would like to go on a very special day trip with your little racers, the Ravensburger Spieleland is a good idea: more than 70 attractions are waiting for you in eight themed worlds. Games and fun become a special experience alongside Captain Bluebear and Fix and Foxi. But also the various summer toboggan runs guarantee pure fun. The summer toboggan run on the Alpspitze in Nesselwang is the longest in the Allgäu. The chairlift takes you up and the sledge over thirteen curves and a tunnel down into the valley. If you don’t dare to go downhill on your own, you can also go down tobogganing in a two-seater. More adrenaline awaits you in Nesselwang at the AlpspitzKICK, because this is the longest and fastest zipline in Germany.

It’s only quieter when strolling through the Allgäu outlet. While mom and dad buy new hiking gear, the kids spend their time playing in the children’s area. A family vacation in the Allgäu offers the perfect leisure activity for every mood and age!

The wonders of nature

Since a family vacation in the Allgäu is all about nature, you should not miss some of the region’s highlights! For example, you can experience the most beautiful natural experiences in the Oberallgäu at the Buchenegg waterfalls. Nature invites you and your kids to extraordinary water fun, but before that you have to do an idyllic hike. Just as idyllic is the Breitachklamm, an impressive rock gorge, through which you can walk various circular hiking trails and will never be able to get out of amazement. You can also walk most of the circular hiking trails during family holidays in winter – the Breitachklamm in the Allgäu is worth seeing in every season! If you are traveling in Füssen, you should not miss the Lechfall on the southern outskirts of the city. The Lechfall is the outflow of a lake that flows down from about twelve meters here. For big and small summiteers, a visit to the Nebelhorn in the Allgäu Alps is a must. The 2,224 meter high mountain peak is ideal for hiking. If you just want to admire the view, you can easily reach the summit by cable car. The skywalk awaits you in Scheidegg in the Allgäu, from which you also have a wonderful view of the region’s forests. The Skywalk is barrier-free and therefore particularly suitable as an excursion while on vacation with the family. You will also find nature trails and an adventure playground here – fun is guaranteed!
