11.06.2013 Press Releases neanderland STEIG

With a guided walking tour from Velbert-Neviges to Velbert-Nordrath, District Administrator Thomas Hendele will hand over the first sections of the approximately 230-kilometer-long Neanderland STEIG to her destination on Sunday, 23 June. The neanderland STEIG combines the natural beauties and sights in the district of Mettmann and its neighboring cities. He joins the major cultural tourism trails in Germany.

Prominent sponsor of the neanderland STEIGS is Manuel Andrack. Together with project manager Friedhelm Reusch from the district of Mettmann, he has already explored every step of the way in detail and is enthusiastic about the value of the event and the quality of the STEIGS. The guide, which will be published in the summer of next year for the completion of neanderland STEIGS, will carry Andrack’s signature. The opening hike on June 23 will also be accompanied by Manuel Andrack. Hiking enthusiasts are welcome to join. As an important note, the district is aware that the neanderland STEIG is a natural hiking trail and thus unfortunately not barrier-free (not suitable for wheelchairs and prams). Mitwanderer should therefore be prepared with suitable footwear on the road and on a few to be mastered altitude.

Meeting point is at 10:30 am in Neviges on the Pilgerparkplatz (Bernsaustraße). At the meeting point, hikers will also have the opportunity to fortify themselves for a while and stock up on some food for the hike. At around 11.00 am, under the leadership of District Administrator Thomas, Hendele, Manuel Andrack and Friedhelm Reusch, they all set off on an approximately 8-kilometer hike to Nordrath, where, depending on the pace, between 1 pm and 2 pm with the arrival at the destination, the Windrather Hof (Nordrather St. 72), is to be expected.

With cool drinks, grilled specialties, waffles and cakes, the hiking day ends in a cozy atmosphere. For the return to Velbert-Neviges, the circle will provide shuttle buses on the opening day approximately every half-hour from 2 pm to 4 pm (last departure).

Just in time for the opening hike will be a first flyer with information on the stage from Neviges to Nordrath, but also to the upstream stage from Wülfrath-Düssel to Neviges. The flyer will be issued to all migrants at the start of the hike in Neviges. As of June 24, he can also be requested from the district and is available for download at www.neanderland-steig.de.

The neanderland STEIG: Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy views and insights into the idyllic landscape on the approximately 230-kilometer-long neanderland STEIG and experience the region as a green lung in the middle of the densely populated areas between the Rhine and Ruhr. The 17 individual stages lead past bathing lakes, run through moors, heathlands, extensive forests and recreational areas. Complemented by local explorers’ loops (to be created by the cities until 2014), neanderland STEIG offers a previously unknown opportunity to discover the Mettmann district as a hiking and holiday region. By October, 12 stages (about 165 kilometers) will be prepared for the hikers. By the summer of 2014, the remaining five stages will complete the neanderland STEIG.
