Family vacation on the North Sea – experience a lot together

What should a vacation destination offer that you want to take with the whole family? Right, on the one hand it should be easy to reach, the journey should be relatively short, there should be varied leisure activities on site and last but not least, the holiday destination should be cheap. What could be better than a family vacation on the North Sea? The focus is on joint activities, whether on the beach, in the amusement park, on bike tours or on hikes through the Wadden Sea. By the way, the best time to travel is from June to September, when the thermometer often climbs above the 20-degree mark and the sun can be seen for up to eight hours.

It is of course ideal if you are arriving by car. Because you are mobile on site and can also target more distant destinations for exciting excursions. A visit to the North or East Frisian Islands is then possible at any time. However, when visiting the islands, keep in mind that some are car-free. Instead, you get there by ferry or train, which is certainly a highlight for the children. On the islands themselves you can get around on foot, by bike or on the island train, such as on Helgoland. It is the only North Frisian island where cars are not allowed. The car-free East Frisian Islands include Baltrum, Langeoog, Juist, Spiekeroog and Wangerooge.

Family vacation on the North Sea: enjoy sunny hours on the beach

Relax in the beach chair while the kids bake sand cakes, then go to the adventure playground together – a family vacation on the North Sea will surely be a lot of fun for everyone. The North Sea coast has extensive beaches. If you don’t want to go to the beach, islands such as Sylt or Helgoland also offer attractions worth seeing, such as worlds of experience and historic lighthouses. But also on the mainland around Cuxhaven, Büsum and Sankt Peter-Ording you will find leisure and adventure parks that will make your kids’ eyes shine. Nevertheless, we would like to point out some beautiful family beaches that are absolutely worthwhile for a day trip:

  • The family lagoon Perlebucht near Büsum is an artificially created beach that offers everything from beach chairs to barbecue and picnic areas, retreats and beach volleyball fields to the best conditions for trying out windsurfing.
  • On Sylt there is the Westerland main beach, which scores with its location right in the city center. Shops, restaurants and cafes are not far, there are also playgrounds and the opportunity to throw a frisbee, bowls, beach soccer or beach volleyball.
  • At the White Dune on Norderney you can spend a relaxing day on the beach chair while the kids build castles in the soft sand or splash around in the shallow water. Depending on the weather, it is even possible to fly a kite and fly through the air.
