History of Aldiana – The place where the happy live

Aldiana, a subsidiary of NUR-Touristik today Thomas Cook Touristik, is founded in 1973 in Senegal with the opening of the Club Aldiana Senegal. The name "Aldiana" comes from Senegalese and means: "The place where the happy live." Since the name meaning is also program, the concept goes on and the first club plant enjoys high popularity. However, another 9 years pass before the second club hotel in Spain Fuerteventura is added. The new orientation of the club facilities focuses in particular on the large sports facilities such as surfing, sailing, beach volleyball, diving, tennis u.v.m. 8-course meals are mandatory to promote communication. The gastronomy has a very high priority at the beginning, where there are the food selection in buffet form only since the nineties. Until then, Aldiana has presented its guests with various menus to choose from.

Further club facilities follow on the Greek island of Crete, in Tunisia or in Side in Turkey. At the end of the 90s the club concept will be further developed in the course of the new era. The then managing director Gisela Sökeland sets the direction, according to which Aldiana offers club holidays on a premium level and should become the market leader. The new alignment also requires the painting of the "club"-Anhängsels, whereby from the "Club Aldiana" simply the "Aldiana" becomes. Equally new is the additional focus on wellness and relaxation offers, with which great wellness centers with a wide range of beauty, massage and fitness facilities and sauna landscapes are created. For regular customers, a guest club will be set up to identify even more with the emotional club brand. Also for the travel salesmen a Best Select is created. These are the best sales agencies, with the goal to serve the guests even better. Customer satisfaction is steadily improving and many celebrities are spending their club holidays here too.

Finally, in 2003, Petra Sikorsky becomes the new Managing Director. This continues the chosen path and in 2004, the club facilities in the beachfront businesses are converted to premium all-inclusive, so most drinks are included in the travel price. In addition, there is a gourmet card for very high quality alcoholic drinks, which have to be paid extra. With Volker Schwartz and Artur Gerber new managing directors are appointed and in 2005 the Spanish construction company Santana Gazorla enters with 75.1% at Aldiana. Thomas Cook retains a minority stake of 24.9%. Since the new owners are not coming from the club holiday business, it takes many years to get back to business.

In 2009, both managing directors Peter Wennel have to make way for the new managing director of Aldiana. Once again, Aldiana will be renovated and all costs will be checked carefully. The contracts with the hotel owners are being renegotiated. Qualitatively, there are some problems and the customers are kept on special offer with the bar.

Jürgen Marbach takes over in November 2011 from the Spanish Grupo Santana Cazorla 26.1 percent stake in Aldiana GmbH. Thomas Cook finally sells the remaining 24.9 percent in October 2012 to the Grupo Santana Cazorla, until a year later Jürgen Marbach Aldiana takes over 100 percent. A further change took place in September 2014 with the acquisition of Aldiana Holding by the Egyptian Cleopatra Group company CTI Cleo Touristik International.

Since February 2016, Aldiana has been wholly owned by LMEY Investment AG, a group of investors headquartered in Switzerland. The managing directors Max-Peter Droll and Phillip Schmidt head for a growth course in the spirit of the Aldiana brand. In 2017, Thomas Cook acquired 42% of the shares of Aldiana. In 2018, Max-Peter Droll says goodbye to the management, Stephanie Brandes and Peter K. Brändle each take over a part of the divisions. Both were most recently working for Robinson. In the planned reorientation, the entire club concept should be “rejuvenated”. The focus on gourmet, wellness and sports includes a reorientation of the F&B offer and an expansion of the own Welldiana Spa offer.
